COMPATIBILITY GUIDE
Teraflex JL vs JK — What Actually Crosses Over?
The Jeep Wrangler JK (2007-2018) and JL (2018-present) look similar but have meaningful chassis differences. This guide clarifies which Teraflex parts work on both generations, which are model-specific, and how to avoid costly fitment mistakes.
Quick Answer
- Generally not interchangeable. Teraflex sells separate product lines for JL and JK control arms, lift kits, and suspension components because the chassis geometry differs.[1]
- Cross-compatible parts: some bushings, some brake systems, antennas, and steering stabilizer mounts. See the table below.
- Model-specific: lift kits, coil springs, control arms (long & short), track bars, sway-bar disconnects — all different between JL and JK.
- The rule: always check the product title for "JL" vs "JK" vs "JL/JK" before ordering. If it doesn't specify your exact model, WhatsApp us to confirm.
1. Why JL and JK aren't interchangeable
The JL debuted in 2018 as an all-new platform. Compared to the JK it replaced, the JL has:
- A wider front track and slightly different wheelbase (2/4-door)
- New front/rear axle designs (Dana 30 → Dana 30R front on Sport; Dana 44 axles refined)
- Different spring perch locations and shock-mount orientations
- New frame geometry that changes where control arms mount and at what angle
- Relocated track bar mounts that changed panhard rod geometry
These changes mean a JK coil spring doesn't give correct lift on a JL, a JK long-arm kit doesn't bolt onto JL frame brackets, and a JK track bar is the wrong length and angle for a JL. Teraflex and other suspension brands therefore release separate SKUs per generation.[1]
2. What actually cross-fits (with products)
Despite the geometry changes, a handful of components are shared between JL and JK — usually because they attach to standardised parts like axles or interior mounting points.

The following Teraflex product categories are not interchangeable between JK and JL:
Complete lift kits
JL kits and JK kits use different coil spring rates, different bump-stop extensions, and different sway-bar link lengths. Ordering a JK kit for a JL will result in wrong ride height and poor drivability.[1]
Coil springs
Spring rates are tuned per generation. A JK spring in a JL will sag to less lift height than expected and handle poorly.
Control arms (short & long)
Alpine short control arms are listed separately for JL/JT versus JK/JKU, with different lift height ranges — JL/JT for 0-4.5" and JK for 2-4".[1] Physical lengths and bushing bores differ.
Track bars
JL and JK track bar mount positions moved. The adjustable track bar SKUs are different lengths and are not interchangeable.
Sway-bar disconnects
Different front-end geometry means different disconnect link lengths and bushing sizes between JL and JK.
Steering stabilizers
Mount bracket differs. A JK stabilizer bracket won't fit JL tie-rod geometry.
Shock absorbers
Different shock strokes, different mount eyes. Even the same Teraflex shock family (9550 VSS twin-tube) has different SKUs per generation.
Bump stops
Bump-stop extensions account for the different spring travel, so they're generation-specific.
4. Lift kit cross-reference — JL vs JK
Since lift kits are the most common Teraflex purchase, here's a direct comparison of in-stock kits at the common 2.5" lift height:
| Spec | Wrangler JL 4-Door | Wrangler JK 4-Door |
|---|---|---|
| Part number | Teraflex 1354200 | Teraflex 1351000 |
| Lift height | 2.5" | 2.5" |
| Shocks included | No (base kit) | No (base kit) |
| Our price | DHS. 2,750.00 AED | |
| Stock | In stock | In stock |
Same brand, same family, same lift height — but two different parts. Don't cross-buy.

5. How to avoid ordering the wrong part
-
Check the product title for "JL", "JK", "JL/JK", or "JT"
Every Teraflex SKU we sell has the applicable generation in the title. If you see only "JK", the part will not fit your JL — no matter how similar the description is.
-
Look up your generation
JK = 2007-2018 (2-door or 4-door Unlimited). JL = 2018-present. JT = Gladiator truck (2020-present, JL-based). If you're not sure which generation you own, check the VIN decoder or ask us.
-
Double-check year overlap (2018)
The JL launched mid-2017 as a 2018 model, while some dealerships continued to sell the JK as "2018 JK Unlimited." Early 2018 Wranglers can be either — check your door sticker or VIN.

6. Frequently asked questions
Will a JK lift kit give me 2.5" on a JL if I just install it?
No — and it's dangerous to try. JL and JK spring rates differ because the vehicle weights are different. You may get less lift than expected, worse handling, and altered shock geometry that damages the damper. Always use generation-specific parts.
Are JL wheels/tires interchangeable with JK?
The bolt pattern (5×5") is shared, and some wheels cross-fit. But the JL has a wider front track, so offsets and backspacing optimal for a JK may rub on a JL fender or vice versa. Always confirm offset spec with the wheel vendor.
What about Rubicon vs Sport trim within the JL?
Teraflex typically lists kits that fit all JL trims, but Rubicons have factory electronic front sway-bar disconnect and different rear spring rates. Some kits specify "Sport/Sahara" vs "Rubicon" — read carefully.
Does the Gladiator JT share JL parts?
More so than JK — the JT Gladiator is based on the JL platform with an extended wheelbase. Many Teraflex items are listed "JL/JT" indicating they cross-fit. Rear-specific parts (like rear control arms) are often JT-specific due to the longer wheelbase.
If I already have a JK kit and I'm upgrading to a JL, can I reuse anything?
Realistically, very little. Universal accessories like antennas, some brake hardware, and certain bushings cross over. The suspension system itself needs to be re-bought for the JL. Sell your JK kit to a local buyer — there's a healthy second-hand market in the GCC.
What if Teraflex doesn't make a specific part for my JL?
Teraflex's JL catalog is comprehensive. If you're searching for something that doesn't appear, it may not exist yet — or there's an equivalent in a different product family (e.g. Alpine IR vs Sport). WhatsApp us with the specific need and we'll advise.
