Quick Answer

  • An ARB Essentials Recovery Kit (snatch strap, 2 shackles, snatch block, tree protector, gloves, bag) is the minimum baseline — the core ARB kit includes a 17,600 lb snatch strap with 20% stretch, 4.75t bow shackles, and a 19,800 lb snatch block.[1]
  • Add separately: a 12V air compressor, a hydraulic recovery jack, and traction boards — these aren't in the base kit but are widely considered essentials for UAE conditions.[2]
  • Touring (not just recovery) gear from ARB: air lockers, winch bumpers, awnings, and fridge slides turn a 4x4 into a multi-day trip vehicle.
  • Budget: a competent recovery kit starts around AED 2,500. A full touring setup (winch bumper + compressor + awning + lockers) runs AED 20,000+.

1. Tier 1 — The essentials (day-trip kit)

The absolute minimum kit for any UAE off-road day trip. Everything here fits in a single recovery bag.

Snatch strap (17,600 lb)

ARB's signature recovery strap with 20% stretch reduces shock load on your vehicle mounts during dynamic recoveries.[1] Never use a static tow rope for a snatch recovery.

Rated shackles (×2 minimum)

ARB 4.75t bow shackles are the GCC standard. Always use rated shackles — never hardware-store shackles — and pair them with isolators to prevent thread seizing.

Snatch block (19,800 lb)

Doubles your winch line's effective pulling capacity or lets you redirect pull around obstacles. The ARB Ultra-Light snatch block is the go-to pairing with the strap kit.

Tree protector strap

10ft wide-webbed strap that protects anchor points without the stretch behaviour of a snatch strap. Essential if you use a tree or rock as a winch anchor.

Gloves + bag

Leather-palm gloves for handling winch rope and hot snatch straps. A 600gsm recovery bag with compartments keeps everything together.[1]

Tire deflator & gauge

Drop pressure before hitting sand — see our UAE Dune Driving guide for the numbers. A proper deflator reaches target PSI in seconds.

2. Tier 2 — Serious recovery

When Tier 1 can't solve the problem. These items are bought once and last a decade.

Traction boards note: the industry standard for traction boards is MAXTRAX (Australian, orange). ARB sells a competitive alternative (TRED Pro). Both work on the same principle — wedge under the tire, drive onto the board's grip teeth, recover. We stock MAXTRAX accessories — see the dune driving guide.

3. Tier 3 — Touring & expedition add-ons

Once the recovery fundamentals are sorted, ARB's touring range makes overnight trips and long expeditions far more livable.

4. Air Lockers & compressors

Air-operated locking differentials (Air Lockers) are ARB's most mechanically distinctive product. An open differential lets one wheel spin while the other sits still — useless on ice, rocks or soft sand. An Air Locker mechanically locks both wheels on an axle to rotate together on demand, massively improving traction.

Why "air"?

Rather than electric or mechanical engagement, ARB uses compressed air to engage a clutch sleeve inside the differential. The advantage is reliability — the clutch is mechanically simple and the engagement is driver-controlled from the dashboard. The disadvantage: you need a compressor to feed the locker.

ARB compressor tiers

  • CKSA (Single, Small) — minimum for a single locker, slow at tire inflation.
  • CKMA12 (Single, Medium) — a single locker + can inflate tires competently.
  • CKMTA12 (Twin, Medium) — feeds two lockers (front + rear) and inflates faster. The benchmark for a committed touring vehicle.

To run a twin locker setup, you also need the ARB Air Locker Manifold Kit (DHS. 625.00 AED) — it routes air from the twin compressor to the two lockers with switching solenoids.

5. Front winch bumpers

ARB's Deluxe and Summit bumpers are the premium tier for winch-mounting front protection. They add roughly 50-70 kg of steel to the front of the vehicle but provide a solid winch platform, recovery point, optional bull bar, and IFS/solid-axle-specific designs.

Weight matters: an ARB steel front bumper adds 50-70 kg — this affects your suspension. Plan on heavier-rated front springs (e.g. OME for winch/bumper setups) to compensate. See our OME Shocks guide.

7. Frequently asked questions

Do I need all three tiers, or can I skip Tier 2?

Tier 1 is non-negotiable — don't offroad without a basic recovery kit. Tier 2 (hydraulic jack, inflation kit, compressor) becomes essential once you offroad frequently or alone. Tier 3 is for lifestyle/expedition-grade use.

Is the ARB brand worth the premium?

For recovery gear: yes — ARB straps and shackles are rated to rigorous standards and their failure modes are well-documented. Cheaper straps do fail, and when they fail under load they can cause serious injury. For accessories like awnings, ARB is one of several good options; compare on features.

Can I fit an air locker to any axle?

ARB lockers are axle-specific. They fit Dana 30/44/60, Toyota 8"/8.4"/9.5", Nissan H233/H260, and most other common axles — but you need the exact part number for your axle. We can confirm fitment on WhatsApp with your vehicle VIN or axle code.

Do ARB bumpers affect my warranty or safety systems?

ARB bumpers are engineered to integrate with factory airbag/radar systems where possible, but installation typically voids crash-test ratings and can affect parking-sensor/ACC function. In the GCC, aftermarket bumpers are widely accepted, but check your specific insurance policy before fitting.

How long does an ARB snatch strap last?

ARB rates their snatch straps for multiple recoveries, but strap life depends on use. After every recovery, inspect for glazing, cuts, or heat damage. Retire any strap that shows visible wear. Store out of sunlight when not in use.

Are ARB products under warranty in the UAE?

Yes — ARB operates globally and GCC distributors handle warranty claims. Buying from us means any warranty claim is handled locally instead of via U.S. or Australian shipping.
